What you will learn

a) The mitral valve apparatus; b) The echo views, which are essential to visualize the mitral valve: 1) Parasternal long-axis view, 2) Apical 4-chamber view; c) The difference between functional and structural mitral regurgitation; d) Different pathologies involving the mitral valve apparatus causing MR; e) Basics of Color-Doppler; f) The role of Color-Doppler in MR. You will also learn: 1) How to get the echo views mentioned above and how to optimize them; 2) Which cardiac structures can be seen with these echo views; 3) How echo views correlate with anatomy (simulator); 4) How to distinguish normal from abnormal mitral valves; 5) How to visually assess and grade mitral regurgitation.
