Teaching objectives

Participants will be able to:

Introduction to Emergency Ultrasound

  • Demonstrate the ability to properly operate and ultrasound machine and make adjustments to obtain adequate image quality.
  • Acquire ultrasound images for limited examination of the following organ systems: abdominal aorta, renal, female reproductive organs, cardiac and biliary. 
  • Acquire ultrasound images used to determine injuries in the Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma exam.  
  • Use ultrasound to facilitate the intravascular placement of catheters.  

Vascular Access Ultrasound Course

  • Demonstrate the ability to properly operate an ultrasound machine and make adjustments to obtain adequate image quality.
  • Acquire ultrasound images for limited examination of the vascular structures in the neck and limbs for the purpose of placing intravascular catheters. 
  • Use ultrasound to facilitate the intravascular placement of catheters.

Critical Care Ultrasound

  • Perform a focused and advanced (standard views) echo exam in critical care patient
  • Understand the principles of 2D imaging, spectral and color Doppler
  • Assess and quantify the function of left ventricle
  • Detect aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction (and its complications), pericardial tamponade, pulmonary embolism, right heart disease and other cardiac emergenciesView echocardiographic findings from a clinical perspective
